The Namgis and Bees
Among the Namgis (Kwakwaka’wakw) people of the Pacific North Coast, bumblebee and other “stinger” masks were often worn during potlatch ceremonies. These dancing bumble bees were comical figures, who would “sting” attendees before compensating them with gifts.
